14.08.06

We are delighted to announce that we won the Diversity award of 2007!!! Please read the information sent by the Irish Hospitality Industry here...

National Action Plan Against Racism (NPAR) funded Diversity Awards highlight diversity management and integration within the Irish Hospitality and Tourism Industry

Tuesday June 12th 2007: The Winners in the four categories of the NPAR sponsored Hospitality Diversity Awards were named this evening:

  • The Westin Hotel won the Hotel (Groups) category
  • Clontarf Castle Hotel won the Hotel (Individual) category
  • McDonalds Restaurants of Ireland  won the Restaurants category
  • Three Q Catering won the Hospitality Recruitment/Contract Agencies category

Each was recognised for nurturing a wide diversity of staff backgrounds through structured and meaningful integration strategies and resources. The overall winners of last year’s Hospitality Diversity Awards, the Four Seasons Hotel, showed further support by hosting this year’s event.

The Hospitality Diversity Awards have been funded by the National Action Plan Against Racism, and were developed to recognize and celebrate the initiatives, policies and practices taken by both companies and individuals who have embraced diversity within the Irish Hospitality and Tourism industry.

Speaking at the Diversity Awards, Her Excellency Priscilla Jana, South African Ambassador to Ireland said: “These awards highlight the progress and development of the hospitality industry’s structured programmes aimed at promoting integration within the industry.  Highlighting and celebrating the differences breaks down barriers and is making Ireland a richer place to live and work.”

Also speaking, Lucy Gaffney, Chair of the Steering Committee of the National Action Plan Against Racism said: “30,000 people from around the world operate in this sector, and to highlight that fact, the National Action Plan Against Racism featured this contribution in our broadcast and print ad campaign earlier in the year”.

“People from around the world are a core part of Ireland’s delivery of the traditional Irish welcome in restaurants and hotels around the country.  Crucially however, they have also had a very significant and positive effect on the economy, growing it by €5 billion between 2003 and 2006.  It is important to our continued economic growth that ethnic minorities are fully integrated,” she concluded

Also speaking at the awards ceremony was Chief Executive of the Irish Hospitality Institute, Natasha Kinsella, she said: “This year we have examined the wider picture of diversity and are delighted to have so many excellent examples of integration in tonight’s short-listed candidates and winners. We believe it is important to reward all areas of diversity within the Hospitality and Tourism industry, to ensure that the contribution being made by international workers, minority groups and individuals with disabilities are recognized at all levels.”

"By rewarding and highlighting the work of integration we hope to demonstrate the huge benefits of embracing diversity in the workforce and in so doing encourage others, both within and outside the hospitality sector, to emulate this approach".

The Diversity Awards aim to reward cultural integration, recognise the work done to welcome international workers to Ireland as well as those with disabilities and varied backgrounds and in doing so, to acknowledge awareness training that has been carried out by the industry. The awards help to showcase the benefits from such initiatives and the examples of best practice for other Irish businesses to follow.  All companies who picked up awards did so for the strength they showed in these areas.
